Dropout rate in Indian primary, middle and high schools, especially in rural areas, continues to be shamefully high even after 57 years after independence and in spite of innumerable programs taken up by the Government.

The reasons for such high dropout rates among village kids include poverty, lack of awareness about the importance of literacy, and lack of conducive environment.

The magnitude of the problem calls for our concerted efforts, not just by government, but also by all those concerned with the quality of life of the people. That is why SPREAD INDIA has been focusing on education with the help of generous people like you.

After discussing with the schoolteachers and village elders, we believe that the following will help in lowering the drop out rates in schools. First and foremost thing is that we need to extend financial help to kids. Through our help the school kid can acquire the most basic things like books, clothes, food and a conducive environment where the kid can study without much distraction.

     Study Centers administrator  at:  10/10/2005

It is a well-known fact that in many villages, the poor students lack basic facilities like electricity. In many cases, parents don't have any education to guide their children in their studies. They also can't afford to send them to any private tuition classes or provide any other additional support. Due to this, many students are not able to get through even 10th class. This failure ratio is discouraging other parents from sending their children to schools.

Study Centers are being provided at the following village schools: Please click on village below for more details.
1) Balemla
2) Gurthur
3) Pillalamarri
4) Thallakhampad

The objective of Scholarships program is to create a competitive spirit among students studying in different schools located in selected region.
Through this program, the poor highest rank holders are selected for scholarships. Depending on the progress of these rank holders, we will also extend support for their higher education.

     Adult Education administrator  at:  10/11/2005

The level of poverty and illiteracy in India is frightening! More than one fourth of the population of one billion is poor, and 35% is illiterate - although among the poorest that figure is much higher. This illiteracy is leading to early marriages, over population, poor sanitation, etc.

SPREAD INDIA participated in adult education project that was initiated by municipal commissioner in Suryapet town.

Check Dam (lift irrigation) Project At G.Kothapally village For some time now, it has been evident that agriculture in the country is facing a serious crisis. Since the late 1990s, the combination of trade liberalization and reduced public protection to farmers, in an increasingly volatile climatic environment, has created a pincer movement of rising input costs and falling or stagnant output prices. This has forced many cultivators, especially small and marginal farmers, into debt with growing inability to repay resulted in the dramatic increase in suicides by farmers and many of the villagers have been migrated leaving old aged parents in hopeless state. Water scarcity has been one of the major contributing factors to poor agricultural yields.

Check Dam: The first phase of this project includes constructing a Check-Dam. Check-dams are small purpose of water harvesting. The small dams retain excess water flow during monsoon rains in a small catchment area behind the structure. Pressure created in the catchment area helps force the impounded water into the ground. The major environmental benefit is the replenishment of nearby groundwater reserves and wells. The water entrapped by the dam, surface and subsurface, is primarily intended for use in irrigation during the monsoon and later during the dry season, but can also be used for livestock and domestic needs.
